I have a win 2000 machine that is managed by corporate
policy and they have it set up so that every 15 minutes
of inactivity, you have to press ctrl-alt-del to unlock
the desktop. I have already tried fixing the registry,
but some of the keys data is not modifiable via regedit
or regedit32. Does anyone know what we could try that
would remove the 15 minute timeout? it's aggrevating when
we have a laptop in the field, not connected to a network
and it locks every 15.

Don't mess around with security configuration on
corporate machines, unless you want to look for a new
job. Messing around with the system will probably breach
your companies Acceptable Use Policy or other Security
Policy, and this will usually result in you getting
sacked or worse. Speak to your security administrators if
you have problems.

The screensaver lock is there to protect the data held on
the laptop, which is of great value to the company and
even more valuable to competitors. In the 15 minutes (or
more) that the laptop is left unattended, anyone could
access it (especially 'in the field') and steal the data,
or e-mail your boss from your account with a nice insult.
I doubt that you will be able to convince the security
people that the few seconds it takes to unlock the
machine is more of an inconvenience than your main
competitor having your data.
