I would like the date to automatically update upon opening a form document to the current date without my having to input the info, like it does in WordPerfect.
Assuming this is a template, you don't want to use the Date field, which
inserts a date that will update every time you open the document, which I
assume is not what you want. Instead, insert a CreateDate field, which will
update to the current date when you create a new document based on the
template, but will not update when you subsequently reopen the document.

I took the intent of the question to be the opposite of
how you read it. Whatever its intent, there is now an
answer. I have read about CreateDate in your previous
posts, and have used it to good advantage.
The key here is for Lori to use a template as the basis for the new document
rather than reopening an existing document and making changes. The use of
old documents rather than templates is common practice with Word Perfect and
not a good idea with Word.
