Can someone tell me how to turn OFF the feature in XP
that automatical creates a "copy" of a document or
picture when I try to move it from one folder to another?
 
You have two options - copy or move.
To copy - just drag the object
To move - hold down the shift key and drag the object

Failing that, use the Edit menu to 'cut' - which is
like 'move'

If the desintation is on the same partition. Dragged files get moved. If
not, they will get copied. Easiest way around it from me is to right-drag
the file. when you release it, an option menu will show up with
COpy/Move/Create Shortvut here.
