Automatic Connection State vs Manual - advantage

I have a situation where some of my users keep going offline, and some of the
outlook clients are configured to automatically detect connection state, and
some are configured to manually control connetion state, with a sub option to
Connect with the network.

In either case, these users end up going offline, and not coming back
online. Is there an advantage to choose either setting. Where can I find
more information as to how this setting works from a technical standpoint.

Has anyone had a problem in their environemnt of their clients always going
offline?

after something like three failures in a row, it goes offline.

Does that happen on either setting?

Yes, AFAIK, if you try to connect manually and fail x number of times, it
goes offline.

I want to build on the 2nd part of my question as I revisit this topic.
Where can i find a white paper or something that discusses the advantage
ofhaving one setting over another?
