Hi,

We have an intermitent probelm with some of our clients who keep losing
there automatic config file in internet explorer. It will be there for a
while and then just disapear. I found the KB artical 291852 but it says this
is for ie5, all of our clients are on 6.

Im pritty sure its something to do with group policys but im not sure what
it could be

Cheers

Based on the description of the issue, I am unable to find the cause for
this issuue. To find out the cause for this issue, I would recommend you to
do the following:

Under the "User Configuration\Windows Settings\Internet Explorer
Maintenance\Connection", enable the “Disable Changing Automatic
Configuration Settings” policy so that the user is unable to change the
setting.

After you enable this policy, please check if the Automatic Settings are
lost. If yes, we will need to find the cause of this issue.

Hi,

I will enable this for a while, but i dont really want to keep it on all the
time as it will stop the IT staff from altering any settings. Ill let you
know how it goes

cheers Luke

The same GP can be applied to different security groups, even if they are
located
in the same OU.

Ensure that only targeted users/systems have the "Read" and "Apply Group
Policy"
permissions if they were to receive the GP. Easiest way is to remove the
"Authenticated Users" group and set the preceding for "GroupXYZ" with the
right
user accounts (non-IT users in your case).
