is there a program that'll back up an entire directory AND / or
selected files at system startup and / or login ?

Assuming you want to back up to a drive, it would be simple to write a
batch for xxcopy to do that. But it should be precluded by a scan for
viruses and Trojans. So you might consider scanning before you shut
down. Or you could use a scanner such as KAVDOS32 to run in the batch
and not back up if a virus or Trojan is found.

If you are using Win 98/ME you might want to look at SCANREG.INI in your Windows
Directory (works automatically at system startup so long as you have
SCANREGW.EXE /AUTORUN as a startup item).
