I put a misspelled contact in and although I edited it out and corrected it,
when starting a new email, the old address appears in my choices window.
How can I permanently delete the incorrect address? Additionaly, often times
when I start the address it will not automatically complete the address.
Thanks. Jim

You've run across two of several design deficiencies in Windows Mail.

Auto-completion of recipients does not work well. It doesn't use the
normal Contacts list but uses a separate list of the last 29 people
you've sent mail to. That list is kept in the registry, and it is difficult
to edit. If you know what you are doing, you can simply delete that
whole key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Recently Used Addresses

I suggest you upgrade to Windows Live Mail, which doesn't have this
deficiency: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

What I did was to delete it completely and then I reentered it as if it were
a new contact.

Windows Mail doesn't use the contacts list for automatically completing
addresses. Instead, it uses a separate list of the last 29 addresses you
sent
messages to. This list is very hard to edit; it's easier just to send
messages
to the 29 addresses you want on the list.

If you'd rather use the contacts list, start a new message as usual, except
don't type any part of the address. Instead, click on To:.
