I am looking for a means by which to install a Microsoft Loopback
Adapter automatically. I have read
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;839013 on how
to do so using unattended.txt, but I don't think this will work for our
needs. From what I have seen (and I could very well be wrong) you need
a Windows 2000 CD with winnt32.exe or winnt.exe in order to install
from unattended.txt. We cannot do this for a couple of reasons. One,
this is being installed on a system that is already in place and cannot
have Windows 2000 reinstalled. Two, this setup must take place on its
own and WITHOUT a CD. The setup is often sent via internet overnight.
There is no way a Windows 2000 CD can come into the picture. Also we
cannot copy the I386 folder to the PC as the install must remain as
small a possible (currently less than 10 MB).
Anyway, would there be a way to install the Microsoft Loopback Adapter
by using something such as an INF file or BAT file? Any way that this
could be done without requiring a Windows 2000 CD or significantly
increasing install size would probably be viable. The systems already
have all the info needed to run the loopback adapter as I have been
able to set up a couple manually (can't do this manually in the long
run as it will be used on thousands of PCs) without any trouble.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
