After looking at various possibilities, I'm using SmartSynch for data backups
to DVD and to another machine on the network. It's available on the web.
They let you use it free for some evaluation period then you have to buy it.
I like it because it copies each file over to the DVD independently so you
can use your normal directory tools to look at the disk, retrieve a file,
etc. Other programs pack everything into one massive file.

Typically I put a DVD into my machine and let nightly backups run to it for a
week, then put that one on the shelf and put in the next one. I keep half a
dozen or so working in rotation. If I were a little more paranoid I'd
replace the disk every night rather than weekly.

Good luck...

Have you got Nero by chance? If so you can use it's Nero BackItUp program.
If not and you are looking for a low cost app that works with the XP
Scheduler then try ZipBackup http://www.zipbackup.com/ It's benefit is that
it will burn directly to DVD without any additional software, it will auto
span discs and it saves backups in the .zip format so it is easy to retrieve
data.
