Hi,

I would like to automate the launch of MovieMaker. How can I create MSWMM project file and launch the application with it?

Hello There,

Your question is a bit too broad at the moment. For example, What event do
you want to occur that will as a result cause Movie Maker to run?

If you create a MSWMM project file and double-click
on it, it should launch Movie Maker. If it doesn't,
try the following.

1. Right-click on the MSWMM project file, and select
Open with -> Choose program...

2. Select Movie Maker from the list of programs, and
check the box: Always use the selected program ...

Now when you double-click on a MSWMM file, it will
launch Movie Maker.

Note: If Movie Maker is not shown in the list of
programs in Step 2 above, click on the Browse button,
then navigate to C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\moviemk.exe

Hi John,

I have an application to manage my video files. I want to select the video files I need for an editing session within the file manager application. Create a Movie Maker project and then launch Movie Maker with that project. I don't need to automate the editing, just the startup.

Hello there,

Yes, got it. And I now recall because of the below bit, that this has been
raised before.

I have just been tinkering with a project file from Movie Maker and without
the necessary knowledge as to its make up, I would say the answer is no,
you can not do that. I have not though looked at the Microsoft Knowledge
base, which might just prove me wrong.

From the "look & feel" of the project file it seems to be a single
"record", if you like a stand alone database, and without the info on the
fields that make up the record it would be quite a bit trial and error
before you could get it right. I once upset one of my old boss's who had
spent weeks determining how such a record was made up and as a result he
wrote a very neat C++ program that would convert it into a Paradox database
record....he got upset when I sat him down and imported what was basically
a text file deliminated with commas into a paradox database editor...the
poor chap had spent weeks of tinkering in his own time because he did not
recognise it as being comma deliminated.

Back to the point though......Even if we knew the format of the record and
consequently created a program that could launch Movie Maker (Launching
Movie Maker is easy) it would mean adding a function to windows explorer
perhaps that would recognise your selection. It would still have to ask for
confirmation otherwise it would always launch movie maker instead of just
adding the files say to the play list of Media Player. I am certain it can
be done, provided the right information is at hand, but I do think its a
bit like using a sledge hammer to crack a small nut
