My new motherboard/cpu spontaneously reboots every once in a while out of
the blue (three times in one week). I set system
properties/advanced/startup and recovery to not reboot on system error. I
think the error just occured again, the screen went blank for one moment
like the other times, only instead of rebooting it came back as if nothing
ever happened. How do I view system error logs? I tried event viewer but
that didn't have anything. Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about
tracking this problem?

If you have unset the "Automatically restart" in control
panel/advanced/startup and recovery settings, and you are not getting the
blue screen when this occurs, it doesn't sound like a system crash, more a
serious hardware issue.

If you also don't see any entries in the system event log by using

start/run
eventvwr.msc

And then clicking on system in the left pane, to list all the entries, then
this further points to something serious.

You say you have replaced your motherboard and cpu.
What motherboard and cpu did you used to have, and what do you have now.

Is the power supply compatible with the new motherboard ? It may even be
faulty.
Is is powerful enough to take the added load of a more poweful cpu? Did you
add any additonal hardware at the same time ?
When you changed the motherboard, did you also reinstall windows xp ?
Are you sure all the motherboard case connections are sound particularly the
reset and power connectors ?
A bad connection can cause a reset.

Thanks for your help. I found this in the event log that corresponds to
one of the reboots: Savedump, eventID: 1001

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000008e
(0xc0000005, 0xbf87dd5c, 0xf2f29b9c, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in:
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini110403-01.dmp.

How do I go about searching the microsoft site for information about this?
