Autoformat is off - but still functioning

Whenever I make a change to a number or bullet point, my wrap and indent
spacing changes and it's making me crazy. I've turned all all autoformating
as I type. It's all "deselected", yet this behaviour continues. Is there
something else I can set to stop this from happening. I want all pages to
look the same, but this autoformating (or whatever it is) is making it
impossible to make the pages look alike. I keep resetting the indents and
they keep changing.

Any thoughts on why this is happening? Thanks.

This isn't really an autoformat issue, it's just the way PPT works with
bullets vs numbers, and I agree that it's annoying.

You will need to make two slide masters, one for bulleted text, the other
for numbered text. That's the only real workaround I know of.

Thanks Echo.
Unfortunately, I have bullets and numbers on the same slide. I guess I'm
stuck with reformatting every paragraph every time I change a bullet or
number. Give the powerpoint team a wack up the side of the head for this
one, if you're ever near them.
Appreciate your response.

I'd be happy to give 'em a whack upside the head for you, Diana. I'll add it
to the various other whacks! :-)

If you have a sample slide you can send me, that would be really helpful. It
can have dummy text in it, no problem. If you would, email it to echos at
indy dot net.

Thanks!

The file is at work ... am a little busy at home this weekend on a personal
project, so I'll modify that file on Monday so that I can send to you.
Thanks.

Increase the indent in the placeholder on your slide master.

Numbers change the indent because there are 2 characters -- the number and a
period. So you have to allow extra room that you don't have to allow for a
bullet.

So, as I mentioned earlier, I would create two masters -- one set up with a
closer indent to use for slides with only bullets, and another with a wider
indent to use for slides with only numbers or a mixture of numbers and
bullets. For now, that's the best I can do, but maybe it will save you a
little work, anyway.

Unfortunately, the default indent for a number is wider than I (and probably
you) prefer, so even if we allow room for the bullet and the period, we have
to add a bit more, otherwise it will just change anyway. That is the part
I'd like to whack Microsoft upside the head about! :-)

Here's a sample.
To reproduce the problem, select any bulleted point and change it to a
number. That will make "all" the indents for all other bullets, change.
It's a wierdness.
Thanks for your help (whether you succeed or not ... it's appreciated).
