Autofilter limit

Excel 2003
I have been using the autofilter function quite heavily recently and noticed
that some items have not appeared in the drop-down.
I assume that there is a limit on the number of items Excel autofilter can
handle. Does anyone know what it is and if it is the same in Excel 2007?

It is 1,000 items in 2003, and 2007 raises it to 10,000 I believe.
