How can I make Data/Filter/Autofilter distinguish between upper and lower
characters in Excel 2003 - or is it a "design feature" that makes the filter
case independent.
Thanks, Martyn

Instead of and AutoFilter, you can use an Advanced Filter. There are
instructions here:

http://www.contextures.com/xladvfilter01.html

In the criteria range, enter the text you're filtering for in the
heading cell (K1 in this example). In the cell below, enter a formula
that refers to the heading cell, and the first data cell in the column
that's being filtered, e.g.: =EXACT(D4,$K$1)

Apply the Advanced Filter, selecting cells K1:K2 as the criteria area.

Or, if you prefer to use an AutoFilter, add a column to your table that
compares each row to cell K1. Filter that column for TRUE or FALSE.
