Ref. the 'c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt' notice regarding DOS programs,
having found that my copy of Autoexec.nt was missing so I reloaded it as
instructed. Alas to no avail. Something, or somebody! keeps deleting it on
start up. Any ideas? I read the notice about 'windupdater.exe' but was
unable to find a copy so don't believe it is that which is causing the
problem. Strangely enough it only is affecting my (old) Word 6 prog. and
also 'Sysedit' not 'Regedit'--

Thank you
Following the 'Google' link I checked the Add/remove file list in the
Control panel and although i was unable to find 'windupdater.exe' I did find
two similar directories namely 'AdTools Service' and 'Windows FormatAd' which
had been written at the time of the troubles.
On further investigation these seemed to have had an origin in
'www.windupdates.com' !!!!
Deleting these and rewriting the Autoexec.nt appears to have cured the
problem....until the next time.

Why is this so surprising to you? Wind Updates provides free ad supported
software, such sites and software should always be suspect.
