Autocompleting address glitch

I am using Outlook 2002

I have a contact with both the name and file as 'Steve Jones'.

I open a new message and in the TO: start to type in 'Steve Jones' but as
soon as I type 'Stev' the name and email address for 'Steve Smith' - who is
not in my contact list - autocompletes. 'Steve Jones' is the only Steve I
have in my contacts.

Where is the entry for 'Steve Smith' being stored and how do I eliminate it
so that when I type in 'Stev' 'Steve Jones' will appear?

I do not get the little drop down menu that you can usually arrow up/down
and delete autocomplete entries.

In your autocompletion cache, not your Contacts.
Remove individual addresses from the autocompletion cache by highlighting
the entry when presented in the suggested names list (use your arrow key to
migrate to the entry) and then hitting your Delete key before you tab out of
the field. To clear the entire cache, follow the instructions here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q287623

I've been able to delete entries from the cache before, but only when more
than one was appearing. When only one entry is in the autocompletion cache
you can't use the arrow key to migrate to the entry and the delete key will
remove it from the line but not the cache.

Is there a way to edit the cache rather than delete it? I only have
problems with this one specific one and would kind of like to keep all of
the others.

The only way is to create another entry that will make it into the suggested
names list so you can delete the other entry. They didn't fix this
deficiency until Outlook 2003.
