Where does the AutoComplete Settings in IE 6 (Tools>Internet
Options>Content>Personal Information>AutoComplete>Use AutoComplete for>Web
addresses/Forms/Usernames and passwords on forms) stores the data? What is
the path to the place Usernames and Passwords are stored in?

Hi Sky,
Be warned editing or messing with registry can completely destroy or make
your system useless:

Here are the paths that you can find the Autocomplete ( there are other):
C:\Documents and settings\<Local user>\Favorite
[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoComplete
[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserAssist.

[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Map
Network Drive MRU
[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\LastVisitedMRU

[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURL
[-]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RecentDocs

You can Edit the value there to Allow or prevent AutoComplete, but it will
be the same if you used the GUI on the IE properties.
HTH.

Hi dear Nass,
You mean the data are stored in all the places you've specified
simultaneously, or in just one of them?

Sky

Hi,
As Nass advised, this information is in the registry, in encrypted form.
What are you wanting to do?

The question can not be answered without referring to your OS
which you have not disclosed. E.g. in XPsp2 it is quite different
now than it used to be.

Hint: use RegMon to see which (usually hidden) registry branch is accessed
and which service does it on behalf of iexplore.exe (if it is not being done
by iexplore.exe)

Good luck

Dear Robert,
Hi,
My OS is XPsp2. A million thanks in advance for your further help.
Best,
Sky

Hi dear Don,
Following the paths Nass said, I found just lengthy strings/series of
numbers and letters making no sense to me! I want to see if, say, my password
can be reached or not. In other words, I want to see should someone having
access to my PC can find my password stored at that places Nass said or not.
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Sky,
Did you read Don message/reply:
"this information is in the registry, in encrypted form"
So to know the password you need to use a third party software to unscramble
this encryption.

As far as your concern, yes if your Computer being compromised somebody
will be able to retrieve these passwords by an utility and get all data not
just a password but other data residing on your HDD, so no need to be worry
about if you are doing your job in keeping your machine clean, assigning a
strong password no body can guess.
