Autocomplete not working as expected

Upon creating a message with Outlook 2002 SP3, when I type a contact's first
or last name into the To:, CC: or BCC: fields, there is no automatic
completion as I type. The boxes for autocompletion and name checking under
Advanced Options are checked, still the feature is not working as expected.
As soon as I manually "Check names" or click the To: button next to
partially typed name, it automatically resolves. It doesn't, however,
display any matches while I type. The behavior I'm used to with Lotus Notes
or other clients is: type Jo -> system autocompletes to "John Smith" if
there is only one John, or to "John" if there are multiple Johns, and lets
me continue typing the last name. How can this be done in Outlook?

Autocompletion does not use your Contacts data. It uses a cache that becomes
populated as you actually send messages?
Have you sent enough messages to have populated a robust cache?

Apparently, I have not. I don't understand the logic behind this either.
Send mails to everbody in my Contacts in order for Auto Completion to work?
And what if I delete a contact, I assume it would still pop up as a
suggestion for autocomplete? Is there a way to automatically update this
cache you mentioned with all recent contact information? I'm quite surprised
with this behavior...

No. Perhaps you should be using autoresolution instead. Outlook has both
features, you know.

Are you talking about the resolution that takes place when I hit the Send
button? That wouldn't be what I was looking for, is there no way to have
Outlook behave like most other mail clients and suggest names from the
contacts list as you type ?

thanks for your response.
