Hi there,

Does anyone know where IE keeps the file with all the auto
complete text that you type?

Is this a text file or something else?
Can it be edited and how?

you can do it selectively or clear the lot, and even switch it off.
To remove selectively:
select the search field>down arrow twice>hit delete key, Tip: if you
position your mouse pointer over the entry selected by the down arrow you
can continue to hit the delete key repeatedly.
To clear the lot:
IE>tools>internet options>content tab>auto-complete>clear forms.
To switch it off:
remove the check mark from forms. apply/ok your way out.
 
It is not a text file. The entries are kept in the Registry and are
not easily edited (if at all)

Have you tried IE-Tools-Internet Options-Content-AutoComplete?
You can remove individual entries by moving the highlight to them when
they start dropping down and pressing Delete.

Care to elaborate on what you mean by that?
You may have better luck using History to do that.
