Autocaps incorrectly processing

In Word 2000 and XP the first letter after '... ' is always placed in caps
even though it should not. I've played with the autocorrect settings but no
matter what I try I am unable to teach Word that it should caps after '. '
but not '... '

Is there any way to correct this?

Can you provide us some sample text? I can't reproduce what you
describe.

If I type

and the cat... well, let's talk about the cat

the w of "well" goes caps every time.

It sounds as if you are typing three periods. Word should be AutoCorrecting
these to an ellipsis when you press the spacebar, but if it's not, you can
enter one manually using Ctrl+Alt+<period>. Word should not AutoCorrect the
word following an ellipsis.

Odd... I did the Ctrl+Alt+<period> and the next letter did not caps. After
that however, it stopped putting the caps after the regular ... as well.
