I need some help with using Windows Update (or something similar) to
automatically (Windows) update a group of a dozen win2K PC's. A friend
of mine has a small business with a dozen PC's, all running WIN2K,
all networked. Some have direct high speed 'net access, some don't.
The don't have anyone to run around and apply the (now weekly) MS
security patches. But, they *definately* need to get them applied.

I've heard that there's a simple way to automate the Windows Update
process with some free MS monitor that runs when you boot... if that's
true, I could use a pointer to that package.

Also, I need a scheme for them to use with the systems that do not
have high speed access. They can't really run windows update from
these systems. I know that they can download the patches and put them
on a server locally, but they are not really "qualified" to pull this
off (really novice users). It would really be much, much better if
there was some way to automate the patch download from MS or at least
the updates from their machines.

The worst news is that they are a small struggling company and really
don't have a lot to spend on software or consulting ... so I'm trying
to help them come up with a scheme to automate at least some of this
process.

Ideas ?
Thanks,
J
