auto-updating when i don't want it to

Type any 5 numbers in cells a1 through e1. Leave cell f1
blank for now, and type "=sum(a1:e1)" in cell g1. Now go
back and type a number in cell f1, and lo! Cell g1 now
contains the formula "=sum(a1:f1)". This is driving me
nuts! Is there a way to turn this "feature" off?

Dan,

That only happens if you use the autosum feature, if you
directly type the formula in the cell it will not happen.
