Dr. Indera

hello,

maybe 2 weeks ago, i installed this software for the first time. i have
version 1.0.615
in the settings section under auto updater, the only option that i have
checked is the last option, "software update notifications".
i want to be notified rather than have the updates installed automatically.
so far, i haven't been notified.
i'm hoping someone can tell me how to fix this.
thank you.

This does sound like somethings broken, but lets check.

If you go to Help, about, what definition number are you on?

Current definitions are 5749.

I suppose that it is likely that if you cannot get definitions manually, the
automatic notification of available updates might not function either, so it
seems to me that you should try doing File, check for update to see what
happens, even though that means you'd need to wait another week or so to
test the notification issue again.

Auto Updater and track eraser does not work. maybe you'll
see these two working on beta 2. right know those two are
useless.

Autoupdate works fine for most of the millions of users of the beta--they
would tell us!

hi bill,

i went and got the definitions manually. i now have 5749.
is there anything that i should check or change so that i am notified
automatically?

i don't know if this matters, but i am using the free version of zone alarm.
i also have spybot and ad-aware installed.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
if the auto updater only works when the all of the updater options are
selected, this tool won't be much use to me, because it will create one more
thing for me to remember <smile>.

thank you.

I am also using this set of applications and there are no problems with
automatic updates.

My suggestion for you, is to check also the "Enable automatic updates"
option and set the time adequate for you - this and the option you have
selectected already will result in alerts informing about new available
updates.. The "Enable automatic updates" option does not mean downloading
and installing the updates without your prior permission.

Hello All,
The help about menu selection shows that I have version
5749.
I selected the manual update, I got the message window
that indicated I have version 5727 and it update to
version 5749. I selected the manual update again and the
window keeps on updating me from 5727 to 5749 instead of
telling me that I have the latest version.
Did anyone have the same issue?

It sounds as if you have an out-of-date build of Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Please update to the latest build 1.0.615 by following the download links
from http://www.microsoft.com/spyware

Here's one of the millions saying that it works on one of
my computers but not the other, and that I'm hoping
you'll fix whatever's wrong when the app is finished.

What about the program code version--are the two machines running the same
version--check via help, about? Both should be on .615

If either is at a lesser version, update.

hi mikolaj,

thank you. i will try that. i was under the impression that if i selected
the "enable automatic updates" option that the updates would occur without
me being able to intervene.

Hi,

The second option, Definition update notification, in the AutoUpdater
settings in MSAS, allows to download and install updates by MSAS without
informing the user - so this is the one you are affraid of :-)

Please inform if my previous suggestion helped :)

(And excuse me misspellings - all because of fast typing, I think).

hi mikolaj,

yes, that is the option that i am afraid of and will not check.
