Can someone explain to me why I get a notice to auto
update service pack 1 KB832894 about every 2 days.

Open control panel then open add/remove programs. Locate the windows update by it's "Q number" and remove it. You'll get one last
notification the update is ready to be installed and hopefully this time it will register itself properly and end the notifications.

I don't see where it was ever installed. What is the
next step?

In response to a post regarding this problem with the
Media Player update, Patti MacLeod, MVP, gave this advice:
See if this helps:

The original poster posted back to say that it worked
like a charm.

The patch you are being prompted to install is the
cumulative patch for Internet Explorer. Did you look in
the Add or Remove Programs under the "I"s. It should be
listed as "Internet Explorer Q832894"?
