Auto start of Remote Desktop/Terminal Server in windows 98

You can achieve this using some tricks.
1. Replace the shell, setting it to MSTSC.EXE instead of EXPLORER.EXE. I
think this is set in an INI file or in the registry in Windows 98. Just look
for replacing the shell +windows 98 on google. This has its own issues like
people can cancel the connection to the TS, logoff from the TS etc.
2. Write your own shell that shows for example the RDP client only.
3. Use my F.Boot Desktop Edition OS on these machines, replacing Windows 98
completely. This will give you a lot more, centralized management, no
Windows patches to worry about etc. Check our website for more information.

Hello Folks,

I have about 40 machines in Windows 98 and I would like then boot
automatically into terminal server full screen mode waiting at the login
prompt. It is possible? If so how do I do it?

Thank you for your help in advance!!! (smile)

Claudio,

I just found your website and am looking these products over. I have 20 or
so old HP 486 units I was getting ready to send to the recyclers. All we
would be interested in is the F.Boot M-Module. What kind of video resolution
would we see and would this work with old ISA Intel Pro10 NIC's?

Are these stable clients?

Thanks,

Denny

As long as you can use NDIS drivers or packet drivers with these NICs (DOS)
you can use them with DOSRDP XP for sure.
Resolution goes up to 1024x768 with 16-bit color if your video card supports
it.
Normally if the network card is not available on the setup program we
provide you can get them at the manufacturer website.
And yes, these are stable clients with thousands of copies sold worldwide
for major clients.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your posting here.

In Windows 98, this can be accomplished by opening %system
root%\system.ini, and editing the line "shell=Explorer.exe" to point to
batch file that including the mstsc.exe to load for the shell.

Have a nice day!
