Does Windows XP have any kind of a feature that will automatically save my
keystrokes while using a word processor so that if the program freezes, and
I get the dreaded 'program is not responding' and all my work. I know I
should periodically save my work so I wouldn't lose all on lock up but it
would be great if XP could mirror my input to RAM or the HD so that recovery
could be achieved. Any such capability in XP?

Office does but having one for Windows XP in general would likely be too
much overhead and considered a possible security issue.

If using Word/Excel, look in the help for "automatic recovery".
