My office uses Office 2000. I have created a cd that introduces our company. My hope is to have it auto play on insertion. It works fine if the the cd drive is :D. If it is another, E, F, or what ever it can't find the media files. In xp it starts fine but if you try to access a movie ect., it will not locate it unless the cd drive is D. How can I get a wild card to look for the drive extension of the the cd player and imbed it in the lookup for the media file? I appreciate any help. It is a shame to have it limited by the playing computer.

You'll need to re-create your links to the external files (video, audio,
etc.). Place all of the files with the presentation in a single folder.
Then delete the links and re-insert the media files. The new links will be
"relative" and pathless.

See:

Links break when I move presentation (and at other times)

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

If you were using PowerPoint 2003, this capability is built into the
product (Package for CD command). This solution bundles the presentation
and, by default, all of it's supporting (linked) files as well as the new
PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to a CD so that when the CD is loaded on to a
supported system the presentation will be opened up automatically in
PowerPoint Viewer 2003. The same feature includes an option to Save to
Folder instead of CD so that you can create a portable, distributable
folder which can be moved to another system, server, etc.

For customers not using PowerPoint 2003 there are a variety manual
workarounds (multiple steps usually starting with using the Pack and Go
feature) and 3rd party workarounds that I will leave to others to suggest.

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide additional options for distributing presentations in full fidelity,
don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft
at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).

I used freeware to create auto-run cd with a PPS file. Worked just fine.
(PP2000).
Great free program, you can create a fancy menu before starting the
slideshow.
