I want my Outlook to automatically send an email reply (e.g. using
JunkReply.oft) to senders that have been identified as Junk mail
(Actions, Junk Email, Junk Email options in Outlook 2003). The reply
would explain that their message has been treated as SPAM, please
phone me to keep this from happening. Is there a way to do this? I
don't see an option for this in either the rules wizard nor the Junk
email options. (And I don't know how to create a custom action in the
rules wizard).

Thanks, Jim

Wouldn't that result in just verifying your address to a multitude of
spammers?

There are very inexpensive services like SpamCop that provide this
capability.

Since spammers never use their own e-mail address, the result is this
irresponsible e-mail user will send bogus rejects to innocents who the
spammer has usurped their e-mail address. Bouncing anywhere outside the
mail session between the sending and receiving mail server is just plain
stupid and shows complete ignorance by the offender as to how e-mail
works. The only thing Excel will excel at is proving he is an ignorant
user and irritate innocents with his bogus rejects.

Vanguard, I think your reply is completely over the top and is only an
indication of your own ignorance and ill manners.

To anyone who can read, it is completely clear that it is not the itention
of the OP to send bogus rejects, but to send a notification to genuine
senders that somehow ended up in the junk mail folder. As it is now, you
will never know whether your message had actually reached the Inbox of your
recipient or was intercepted on the way by some spam filter.

True, the system has its drawbacks, but a reply like yours was completely
unnecessary.

Thanks for all your responses. Most of the responses has to do with
if I'd like to do what I'm trying to do. Assuming that I know what I
want to do-- can Outlook do it?

Also thanks forthe SpamCop suggestion. I'm somewhat familiar with
this service, as I've used it from the other side as a friend of mine
once used this service and the service caught my email address.)
Ideally I'd like something that I have complete control and
understanding of. (I may get around to looking through my email
deleted items now and again -- especially if I'm expecting an email
from a client -- and I'm affraid some clients/business prospects won't
deal with SpamCop, but might pick up the phoen and call me.) And
although I don't want Spammers to know my email address, it won't
bother me so much if I never have to look at it and try to find my
real mail from real people.

Simple answer then: no, not given the criteria you stated at the outset.
