Dear all,

We are using Exchange 5.5 sp4 on Win NT 4.0 server sp6a and varied client
setup of Win 2k SP3 / office 2k sr1 or NT 4.0 sp6a / office 2k sr1.

When Out of office reply is swicthed on, people who send the Out of office
mailbox an email will only receive the out of office autoreply the once.
Every time they send an email after that they do not receive the Out of
office autoreply even though the reply is switched on. If how ever the Out
of office is switched off and on again, the process will start again, only
one auto reply will be sent to each sender.

I have found MS KB article 157961 - XCLN: Out of office reply sent only
once, but this doesn't really clear things up for me.

Can any body help.

Many thanks,

Olly.

That's the way it works, and it's a good thing - it prevents mail loops.
What's the objection?

No problem - I know I tend to be a bit of a schoolmarm. ;-)

Tell people there's a technical reason for the reply only once per sender,
and they'll deal. That's my experience anyway.
Hi Lanwrnch!

Thanks for your response... to all groups. My appologies for this. I
had only intended to use the outlook group, then decided may be the
exchange group would work best!

Well, it does make perfect sense that this stops mail loops, i think
way back when, I was using exchange sp1 we experienced exactly that
where a reply to a distribution list caused an out of office
autoreply mail loop. This is all the advise i ened to tell the users
that this is by design. The reason they would like the OOO on all the
time is so people are constantly remidnind that people are away - no
can do!

Thanks again.

Olly.
