I have a hp computer with a second harddrive. the
original is 10.2gig and the second is 40gig. processor is
a Pentium III. Although shipped with Windows 98 SE, I
have upgraded to XP home and been breezing trouble free
since. Until now. The computer began to make a sort of
rattling sound, a real labouring sound on startup. It
began to automatically shutdown regardless of what I was
doing and went to error message,
KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. After following instructions
and uninstalling any new hardware/software, I continued
to have the same problem occour with increasing
efficiency. I decided to do a system restore, well this
led to my computer management and device manager becoming
blank boxes with no information. I reinstalled windows
onto c:drive which at the time was partitioned. The same
this happened.. I then deleted the partition and
reformatted the drive in NTFS with the hope it would be
more stable. No, error message KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR
(Beginning minidump)the system rebooted and couldn't find
the operating system. I have now installed windows XP
onto my 40gig harddrive which reads as the boot volume.
However I continue to get error messages 'Windows -
Delayed Write Failed'unable to save all data for file
C:$Mft.The data has been lost..I assume this has
something to do with the system volume still being with
the original drive C: My primary question is - How do I
change where the system volume is listed and have both
the boot and system volumes listed on one drive?? And
does it sound like a harddrive problem or BIOS or maybe
something else.. Some help would be greatfully
appreciated..From Pea

Before you start looking to fix software problems, you need to figure out
what's making the unusual sounds, as it could very well be the source of all
your problems. Hardware that's going bad, but not quite failing can throw
errors that look like software issues. You could have a fan going bad that's
causing overheating issues, or the fan in the power supply might be going
and your power supply could be causing problems with other components.

Until you get that part of the problem looked at, you could be chasing your
tail trying to fix software that really isn't broken.

Your disk is going to die :-(
Backup ASAP and look for replacement.
However it can be a controller card problem.
