Windows XP Auto-play with DVD-ROM

OK, my DVD-ROM drive does not play dvd's or cd's automatically as it should do. I have gone through My Computer & also on the properties for the drive but still no auto-play.

Any suggestions on how to sought this out

The previous owner ran MS Virtual PC on it and i think they mentioed that it turned off auto-play. It has been deleted before i got it but could that have left something lurking in the background/
