Does anyone know how to create a powerpoint slide presentation that whe
open, opens in the slide show format instead of the edit format.

Also does anyone know how to effectivly edit or create a autorun.in
file so that when a cd is started, the powerpoint file is automaticall
launched

For # 1, save your presentation as a .pps file, for # 2 Make an AutoRun CD

To open as a presentation/show vs. editable is very easy:
Do a save as and select PowerPoint Show which gives the presentation a .pps
extension. Done.

The other option is to find the file in Windows Explorer and rename it to
have a .pps extension. Done.

Check here for info on creating an autorun CD:

Hello James,

PowerPoint does not have the specific capability that you are looking for.
Currently, if you can open/view a presentation you can view it in edit mode
(not just slide show mode). Saving as "PowerPoint Show (*.pps)" is a
partial solution that is only effective when the presentation is opened via
the operating system shell (Windows Explorer, e-mail attachment, etc.) and
does not restrict viewing to only slide show if the presentation is opened
up using the File -> Open command (or task pane). This is because a *.PPS
file is identical to a *.PPT file (only the file extension is changed).

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that PowerPoint should
provide a way of restricting access to presentations so that they can only
be viewed in "slide show" mode, don't forget to send your feedback to
Microsoft at:

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
