Auto Fit Not Working

In Excel 2007 I am having a problem with auto-fit. It is making the row size
one line of text two large under certain conditions. To reproduce the
problem do the following:

1. Format a cell as Calibri 11pt. with word wrap turned and the cell bottom
aligned.
2. Set the column width to 94.71.
3. Enter the phrase "Here is some text to eat up some space. " eight times
in a cell.
4. Auto-fit the row.

You should see that the cell expands to make room for four lines of text,
but only last three lines are used. Does anyone else have this same problem
and does anyone know a way to make auto-fit not do this?

I have had the same problem in the past. What I will typically do is select
the first row, then hold CTRL + SHIFT + DOWN ARROW, then double click between
any 2 row numbers to autofit the height of all of the rows and you eliminate
that extra space quickly. If you have any cells that you want to have extra
space in above, this solution will not work.

Thank you for your reply, however, your method simply re-does the auto-fit
function and does not effect the problem. The problem is that the spacing is
incorrect after auto-fit not before. I don't want any of the cells to have
extra space, I want them to size themselves to the smallest size allowing all
the text to be seen as most cells that are auto-fit do.

I know that I didn't have the answer to your problem...just a quick fix after
the autofit horizontally messes up the autofit vertically. Sorry I couldn't
help more....

Autofit the column....that is what I do first. Then autofit the row. All of
the extra white space should be gone then.

Sidenote.....Try zooming in and zooming out after you have done the resizing
like you are talking about to recreate your problem. When you Zoom in and
out, the date may take up more or less rows if you do not autofit both ways.
Just something to help you better understand your problem.
