auto disconnect

Auto disconnect works after 20 minutes even though set for one hour - any
suggestions - windows help doesn't even mention auto-disconnect [are they
ashamed of it??]

It may be that you are not using the correct name for the problem you are
trying to describe? What process are you calling "auto-disconnect" and how
are you configuring it?

One hour is set up in connection / properties/options / box - time idle
before disconnect. The Auto-disconnect is a box that appears on screen
apparently unscheduled that gives me 30? seconds before disconnection - it is
labelled Auto-disconnect and says that the connection has been idle for 20
minutes. I can find no reference to it under that heading in Help. It appears
to be a Windows screen not network provider.

line. I suggest your ISP is disconnecting you.

Hi !

Set that option to never and also check the modem settings under device
manager as there is another option out there which may trigger the
disconnection process.
Go to device manager right click on the modem and properties.
Under that go to Advanced option and then click default preferences. This
may solve your problem.

screen appears to be part of the windows. Anyway 20 minutes is silly short
time - which is why it is so annoying. Is it likely to be any other program -

I have never never heard of an ISP admitting that they do this. They all deny
it. However, if you are computer savy, run a log of your internet connection
and you'll discover they disconnected you instead of you dropping the
connection.

Just read that there is a setting on Zone Alarm to disconnect from the net if
idle for a period of time. I don't have Zone Alarm but if you do it may be
something to check.

OK - could agree if the connection just stopped - but I get a proper windows
screen headed 'Auto-disconnect' saying you have been idle for 20 minutes and
will be disconnected in 20 secs and an accept reject box choice. Too
sophisticated for a mean ISP.

Dunno what zone alarm is - but searched for 'zone' and no sign of it on my
system either. Thanks for the idea though!
