hello

is it possible to use scheduler to automatically create restore points on a
weekly basis or can it be done automatically within the program itself?

Hi Earl

The default for creating SR Points is 24 hours. If you change this setting - which can't be done via the 'normal' System Restore options - you will lose the 24 hour Points creation. Altering this setting to a weekly basis may not be very helpful for your system.

ok - I'll leave the time at 24 hr intervals - but how can this be done
automatically?

thank you

Hi Earl

It can't be done automatically. If you do want to change the 24 hour Point creation, you will have to manually edit the Registry:

Start the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore (RPGlobalInterval) - default is 86400 seconds (24 hours)

Double click on RPGlobalInterval in the right hand pane, select Decimal and change the value to the appropriate number in seconds. You will need to reboot your system for this change to take effect.

****Backing up the Registry is a must if you are going to manually edit it. A small program called ERunt will backup and restore the Registry for you.

Please read/download the accompanying documentation.****

hello Will

I only want to know if restore points can be done automatically - I don't
really care when - just how. I originally used weekly as a reference to
time but if windows likes 24 hours - then I'll like it too - but how the
heck do I do it automatically???

Hi Earl

System Restore, by default, is setup to automatically create those Points for you. There is no setting to change. You can check it by opening System Restore - Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore - have a look at the various System Check points that you have, then compare the times with other ones that have been created.

Why did the OP have to ask the same simple question
repeatedly before it dawned on you what was being asked?
Hard to believe anyone is *that* obtuse.

thank you Will- i was not aware that by default it was already being done.
i was always under the impression that you had to create a restore point -
which - if the settings already do that - seems a bit redundant.

nonetheless i appreciate your replies and your time - thank you.

I have never changed any registry settings but my system restore is not creating any automatic restore points at all. How do I make it create them?
