Auto Correct in Outlook 2007

The 'AutoCorrect' facility does not seem to work on my Outlook 2007 even
though the settings are turned on (cross checked with online help 2-3 times).
Stranger is the fact that the explicit invocation of Spell check does not
find any words incorrectly spelt even though it finds grammatical errors and
auto marks grammatical errors.

Most of the settings are default settings at the time of installation.

Word works like a charm though.

In outlook 2003 there was an option to select word as the editor of choice
which no longer seems a valid option.

Any pointers??

I have a signature setup and i am not typing in the signature section of the
message either.

The puzzling aspect is that the grammar check works but not the spell check.

After meddling around some more, it seems that Outlook is not able to
associate the dictionary or the lookup table suggested corrections during the
spell check.

Invoking the spell check explicitly brings up the pop-up that is supposed to
suggest a replacement word, but the replacement area is empty at all times
for any misspelt word!

I compared two machines running Office 2007 and the settings are exactly the
same. While spell check and auto correct do not work on my machine it works
on the other machine.
