I am working on Windows 2000 Professional & use Internet Explorer 6 as the default browser. The petty problem I am facing is when I type 't' (without quotes) in the Address bar of IE after clicking the 'Clear History' button (Tools--->Internet Options--->General), then IE shows only 1 URL option which starts with 't' instead of not showing any option (since I have cleared the history). For e.g., before clearing the history, I visit www.total1.com & www.total2.com, then when I type 't' in the Address bar after clearing the history, IE still shows www.total2.com in the drop-down menu in the Address bar. Note that www.total1.com is not shown as an option, only www.total2.com is shown as an option. The same problem doesn't happen with any other letters other than 't' i.e. the history gets cleared successfully. I also searched the Registry to locate www.total2.com using a software called "Registry Search + Replace v2.11" to get rid of www.total2.com but that didn't yield any match. How do I avoid this petty problem?

Thanks,

Arpan

Arpan,
You probably have corruption in your History folder or it's index.dat file.

The History folder can be deleted manually:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
A new one will be created on restart.
Or
Free History Eraser from
http://smartprotector.com/eraser/free-history-eraser.htm will delete the
History folder and the index.dat file.

Don

Check your Favorites for that name and also consider if AutoComplete
needs it for keeping track of form data or passwords. In that case you
might find that the History's index.dat file is re-initialized with fake visits
to those sites.

In that case Don's suggestion to delete your History would work until you
cleared History again.

BTW instead of clearing History using the Tools, Options menu item
and especially since you are having trouble I suggest you clear it with no
other application active, including especially not iexplore.exe and not
your antivirus scanner if it is known to interfere with the operation of the
History. In order to do that you would have to use the Internet Options
Control Panel applet or equivalently Run...
control inetcpl.cpl

Good luck
