Auto-Boot Windows everyday 3AM

How do I enable Windows XP to auto-boot everyday?
Please note that I'm not looking for a reboot, but an auto-boot where
windows is completely shutdown

What your trying to do has nothing to do with Windows. It's a
function of your hardware.

Check the manual that came with your computer. Some, not all,
systems have a feature in the BIOS that can be set to start the
computer at a certain time. Start your computer and look for a
line that tells you what key to press in order to enter the
Setup program. For many systems it's the F2 or Del key. Once
you've got the Setup program running look for a section titled
Power or something similar.

Bottom line is that you should check with your computer or
motherboard manufacturer for more info on this matter.

What if the bios program doesn't support an auto boot, can it be upgraded or
modified?
 
You can check with the manufacturer but to the best of my
knowledge this isn't a feature that can be added with something
as simple as a BIOS update.

If you haven't done so already, you might want to post your
question to the XP Hardware or General newsgroups. Someone
there may know of a workaround that will help you accomplish
your goal.

Connect the computer's power cord to an outlet with a timer. Or enable
its Boot-on-LAN capability and schedule another computer (one that's
running) to send the appropriate signal at the desired time. Obviously,
if the PC is already powered off, there's no way for it or its operating
system to turn itself on.

Bruce, thanks for trying to help.
Unfortunately, that proposed solution cannot work. Our goal is to manage a
network of over 500 computers remotely, spread out throughout the country. We
may decide to auto-boot more than once, or change the time of booting. A
manual or labor intensive solution isn't an option. Everything, and I mean
everything, must be controlled electronically. Once installed, the only
reason we'll ever physically deal with any of these systems is to upgrage
and/or repair them.

That is a function of the System BIOS and not all system BIOSes support
these features. Not all can be upgraded to it either.

Many manufacturers have created applications that allow you to modify some
BIOS settings through applications installed on the computer - but not all.

If you are looking for a pure software solution to this for all the
computers you could possibly manage - there is none.

At one time I was using PowChute software with my APC UPS and it would auto
boot my computer every morning and shutdown every evening at the time I set.
It might be a solution.
