Not sure what I did, but when I would put new files in a folder it would put
them in consecutively.

Say I had 6 files in a folder, the next item would be number 7.. the next
would be 8th in line, reguardless of name/size/type, ect.... It was all about
what was new comming in.

I put a good bit of stuff in one of my folders and when I do I have no clue
of what's the newest item I've placed. I've got to look through all my files
to find what was put in the most recent.

Turning off auto arrange and moving files doesnt put them in line. So I
figure it must be turned on.

Hope this makes sense.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help!!

On the View menu, point to Arrange Icons by |

How To Arrange Files Using Folder Views in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306554

TweakUI tip
From the View Menu, select "Choose Details" to select which file properties
should be shown in the Explorer window. To sort by a file property, check
its name in the "Choose Details" in order to make that property available in
the "Arrange Icons by" menu.

If you are in Details view, the column header that is used for sorting will
have an arrow on it. If the arrow is pointing UP, the sort order is
ascending, A to Z or 1, 2, 3, etc. If the arrow is pointing DOWN, the sort
order is descending, Z to A or 3, 2, 1.

To sort items in ascending or descending order, click the column heading,
notice which way the arrow is pointing. Clicking the header toggles between
ascending and descending sort order.

In details view, by default Windows Explorer displays files and folders in
ascending order.

If you click on a different column header, that header will be used for
sorting, using ascending sort order, click the header again and it will be
sorted in descending order.
