Powerpoint 2003 with all updates available already installed

I have a presentation that works fine. Problem occurs when a music clip is linked (not embeded) and is set to play throughout the entire presentation in the backdrop. When this is done, the auto-advance features stops working and the presentation stops after the 1st slide. When the music is removed, it works fine again and it advances as expected.

See if the info at http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00047.htm helps.

Thank you for your suggestion Echo S
This would work with Powerpoint 2000/2002/XP but mine is 2003 version and it seems different. I have submitted an inquery to Microsoft Online Help and am awaiting their response. Sometimes it takes a long time to hear back from them. I will post their response as soon as I get it. In the meanwhile, I am looking for any other solution our fellow-users can come up with here in thsi Forum. Thanks again

Please do post back if you get any further information, Bahman.

In the interim, you might try the steps for 2002/XP, as 2003 seems to
work similarly here. You may have to strip out all the sounds and
reinsert them, though, as 2003 does seem to be pretty touchy in this
area.

Yes, it did work. THanks for your timely and engaging feedbacks.

Oh, good, I'm glad to hear that. Sound across slides in PPT can be
unintuitive, that's for sure!

I have the same problem and need the solution. Three WMP files copie
to a folder are used for the sound. The auto advance works fine unti
the sound is added.

What was your solution?

Many thanks ... :

Hello,

By default an inserted sound will play for the current slide only. To get a
sound to play for more than the current slide you have to adjust the
animation settings for the sound.

PowerPoint 97 & PowerPoint 2000:

If you are using PowerPoint 97 there is a very cool option called Custom
Soundtracks. The PowerPoint Custom Soundtrack Add-in allows you to add
electronically-generated background music to your slide shows. You can
install this add-in from the following folder on the Office 97 compact
disc:

<drive>:\ValuPack\MusicTrk

If you (or anyone else reading this message) have suggestions as to how
PowerPoint might change it's features for playing "background" sound, don't
forget to send your feedback to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)

I need to look at these kb articles again, but I think step 7 of
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=322073 is not correct. At the very least,
it's incomplete.

If you "Under Stop playing, specify the options that you want, and then
click OK," the "options you want" may not do what you want them to do,
especially if you're trying to add more than one sound to a presentation
file.

Hi Echo,

It looks OK to me for the vast majority of cases, but...

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that any of the
Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) articles is incomplete or inaccurate, the
fastest way to get it addressed is to simply click on the "Provide us with
feedback on this article" link for the web page for the KB article.
