Auto accept iCalendar appointments?

With the help of Google and this group, I've worked out how to send iCal
appointments via SMTP from our non-Windows application.

However, they arrive as attachments and 'Open' then 'Save and Close' is one
step too many for our users.

Is there a way to make Outlook automatically accept the iCal event and put
it in the user's calendar - I don't mind if the status is tentative or
whatever.

All suggestions gratefully received.

TIA.

Under Tools->Options->Calendar Options->Resource Scheduling, set the option
to automatically accept meetings. You can set other options for meetings
there as well.

Many thanks for replying.

Done that. Also ensured that 'Everyone' has Editor rights to my calendar.

..ics attachments are still not automatically accepted. I still need to open
then 'Save and Close'.

Outlook 2000 9.0.0.2711
Exchange 5.5 SP4

The .ics file that I'm sending follows. I created it by just doing a Save-As
of manually created appointment - then I deleted the appointment expecting
to see it reappear when the email arrives.
