I have been trying to get the windows critical update, but
the site wants me to install a program before it will let
me get to the updates. The problem is that even though it
is a microsoft site, and the install program is from
microsoft (?)
It has a warning that the Authenticode signiture was not
found so there is no way of knowing if it is a microsoft
program or not. Has anyone else had this problem? And
would any of you go ahead and load the program?
This is the program that it offers:
http://v4microsoftupdate.com/CAB/x86/unicode/iuctl.CAB?
37869.8721759259"? Thanks, Tarri

I have the same trouble...but nobody seems to help, please let's know if you
find out some about, I will the same.

I did found this:

We recently released new controls for Windows Update. The controls are
signed and legit.
Try the following to download and install the controls:

Try clearing the browser's cache may resolve some of the behaviors.
Follow these steps to clear the cache:

1. Click Tools > Internet Options
2. In the "Temporary Internet Files" section, click "Delete Cookies"
3. Click "Delete Files" click "Delete all offline content" click OK
4. In the "History" section, click "Clear History".
5. Click "OK".

Disable any web enhancement/accelerator programs, they may be
preventing the installation of new controls.

Access Windows Update again. Any change? If not
access Windows Update using the secured Link:
https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Let us know the results

Next would help Terri:

Mark,

Clear your the Temporary Internet Files , History, and Cookies.

Install the update controls manually :
For Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Server 2003:

Download the controls from
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/cab/x86/unicode/iuctl.cab and save
them to your desktop. Extract the .cab file following the steps below:

1. Go to the desktop and right click the iuctl.cab file.

2. Click "Open".

3. Select all the files listed.

4. Right click on them and click "Extract."

5. Point to a known location (like the desktop) and click "OK."

6. Go to the location you selected and right click the iuctl.inf file.

5. Click "Install."

Try the secure site if the above doesn't succeed :
https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

IF none of the above resolves your issue, go here and follow the steps
for your version of Windows :
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319585
Suggest you install the update controls manually instead of visiting the
Windows Update site to do so.

Well, Hope it will work this time.
