Hello...

I've heard rumors that a client from outside the LAN can be
authenticated by the LAN's server. Can someone give help me
get started on this?

Clients Win9x/2k/xp with netscreen vpns
Server Win2k

Thx,
D.

Well, all VPN or dial up connections to a remote lan are authenticated on
the lan. I think you probably are interested in having remote
machines/users joined to and logging onto the domain.

Not familiar with Netscreen devices - but if you have a persistent VPN
server connection between your Lan and a server on a remote network, then
remote clients can be authenticated on your lan just like they can on any
routed network.

If instead, the remote machine is intiating a VPN client connection, then
the remote user can be authenticated on the Lan by checking the box for 'Log
on using dial-up connection' on the logon screen.

Note - you can join a remote machine to a domain over a VPN connection, but
of course, you will then have to reboot. After reboot, you will not be able
to log on to the domain unless you do one of the above.

Thanks for all the info. Appreciate it. I'll start
experimenting and see how it goes.

Thanks again,
D.
