Audiophile sound cards

Is anyone producing a true Audiophile sound card?
Creative has pushed the envelope by offerin 24/192 cards
but you are still dealing with miniplugs and a plastic
box.
Does anyone really have a handle on what is happening in
the sound card market and if they do, can they post me a
link(s) to good information and commentary?

A friend of mine has the Terratec DMX 6-fire. It has true 24/96 recording
capabilities, and it also makes a great all-purpose sound card.
