you can "overlap" two clips simply by placing them in the timeline next to
each other and then dragging the second clip over the first. to add an
overlaying clip in the middle of another clip, you have to use the splice
tool to cut the original clip in half where you want to overlay the new
sound. drag the new clip in between the 2 parts of the first clip and then
drag the parts back together so the new clip is "overlapping" the 2 parts of
the original clip.
(sounds harder then it is)
