My laptop can have just stereo. If I insert the Audigy2 ZS Notebook card, it can output 7.1 surround. My desktop can have just stereo. I can change that to 5.1 surround, at the expense of other connections.

S Shaun Dec 31, 2006 #3 Whatever comes with the surround system. You only have one sound output on your pc. Most pc's.
