Audio wont work with some music files

I've created my video and I'm satisfied with that, but when I add the music
to the time line and preview it, no music plays. I have created other videos
with other music and had no problem but this one piece of music wont work for
me.
I can play the music file on windows media player ok but it just wont work
for me in the windows movie maker program. I tried it on the windows photo
story 3 program and it wont work there either.

I can grab the progress bar after the video starts and try to move it one
direction or the other and when I do, I can hear the music. But if I rewind
it, it wont play.
I went ahead and created the video with that music anyway just to see if it
plays differently but it's still the same.

Here's the rub. I can use that same music file with Irfanview, and create a
slide show with that music and it works fine, it just wont work with windows
movie maker.
Anybody got any ideas what I can do to fix this problem? Anybody else have
such an experience as this?
Thanks very much for your expert help.

Convert the music file to another one... if it plays fine in WMP or
IrfanView, play it there and capture it to a new WMA narration file in
MM2... see the Importing Source Files > Music and Audio page of my site for
more info.

.... you don't say where the music is from or the file type, so it's hard to
give any other suggestions.

Sorry,
the file is a .mp3 file and it came from a disk.
(I clicked to get your web page and it said "no information available)

That is likely your problem.
Some MP3's will work just fine in WMM and others simply won't.
The solution is, as Papajohn says, to convert the MP3 to WMA or WAV and then
import that into your project.
