Grandma Needs Help

Please HELP. I have completed a video from a family get together this past
summer. However, the sound I had for the fireworks is now gone. The music
plays fine but the sound is gone-noise of the actual fireworks. This seems to
happen when I do a save???? I have saved this several times and sometime the
sound is there and other times it is gone....any suggestions. I really don't
want to go back to a previous save and add pictures and video over again.
Using Windows XP
THANKS FOR ANY HELP!!!

I'm guessing the music is a file you added to the
Audio / Music track and the fireworks audio is
included on the video clip? Have you tried right
clicking the Audio Track below the Fireworks
Video Clip and increasing the volume?

Yes, I tried this before I sent the first post. I searched WMM about Audio
Sound before I sent the post. This is really strange as noting seems to bring
back the sound of the fireworks. It's really cool when it workes. Any other
suggestions.

Maybe the fireworks clip is corrupted in some
way. It might be worth a try to replace the clip
on the timeline with a new copy.

================================
Drag the sound file to the Audio/Music
track...then drag it left or right to align it
to the correct video (the cursor becomes
a hand) and then split it (Ctrl+L) and
delete the unwanted portion.

you need to be in the timeline view of the project, not storyboard view, to
see the music/audio track. Clips on it can be split, trimmed and
positioned.... even gaps between clips work, unlike the video track that
can't have empty spaces.

You can also overlap audio clips to have them fade from one to the other.

Thanks John. I'll give this a try.

John & Papa John,
Thanks again. Your suggestions worked re editting the sound. Is there any
way to narrate over the music and have the on low --narration high--then
music back to normal?

=============================
If the music is on the Audio track and the
Narration is on the Audio/Music track you
can split the music track on each side of
the portion you want to reduce in volume
and then right click that portion and choose
....Volume...drag the slider.

Thanks again John. Can you say why the narration would be recorded -or seemed
to have recorded- but on playback all that can be heard is static?

Not sure...maybe you did not hold the
microphone close enough to your mouth.
All I can say is just experiment with the settings.

If you use Windows Sound Recorder does it work?

Hi guys, not sure if there is a solution to my snag. I have a video clip
that has sound already on it. This is generally ok for most of it but there
are a couple of very small bits of audio I would like to ideally fade out and
then back in again afterwards. Is it possible to do this to audio that is
part of the video, or only to audio that I have added to the timeline like
music or narrative?

It's always best to begin a new thread when
you have a question.

Yes, you can adjust the volume on various
sections of your audio by Splitting the file on
the Audio track...then right click and choose
Fade Out.

Info on Splitting.....

"Splitting A Clip In MM2.1"

Drag the video/audio clip to the
Timeline.

Play the video/audio by clicking the
"Play" button under the view screen.

You will see the Playback Indicator
(vertical line) advancing across the
timeline.

Click the "Pause" button at the point
where you wish to trim and type...
Ctrl+L or click the "Split" button at the
bottom of the view screen.
(you can also make adjustments by
dragging the Playback Indicator)

Make as many splits as you want and
remove the unwanted clips by right
click / delete.

And...Movie Maker 2.1 only displays every
other frame. In order to see all frames, the
following info from PapaJohn may be useful:

===

Movie Maker 2 shows you every-other-frame
when doing project editing. MM1 and Movie
Maker in Vista show you each frame.

It's usually not a problem when skipping over
the in-between frames, but sometimes you
notice a flickering frame in a clip that is a 'stray',
and you can't see or cut it out.

If you apply the Slow - Down - Half video effect
to a clip in the timeline, you are then seeing
each frame rather than every other one. You
can see the problem frame and split it out.
Then remove the effect from the clip to return
it to normal.

This is exactly what I am trying to do.

I have pictures going in a sequence.
I have music that goes with the pictures.
Now I want to add narration (my voice talking) that goes over the music.

I was so glad to find this question and find an answer.
However, the answer here doesn't work ...
BECAUSE:
Every time I drag my music down to the timeline, it automatically gets put
in the AUDIO/MUSIC track.

We can only add Narration (as far as I know) to parts where the AUDIO/MUSIC
track is blank.

So my question is ... how can I make my music show up on the AUDIO track
instead of the AUDIO/MUSIC track?

It seems I need to force the music on to the AUDIO track if I want to add
Narration. Any ideas?

THANK YOU!

===========================
Save your project that includes the
pictures and narration in a movie format...
(if you need info on saving...I've posted
some instructions at the end of this message)

Then re-import the movie file and drag
it to the timeline. The narration will now
be on the Audio track and the Audio /
Music track will be clear...

Now you can add your music to the Audio/
Music track. Now..save the completed file.

To save as a .wmv movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Tick...'Best Quality For My Computer'
Next/
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

To save as an .avi movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...
