I've recently updated to xp on my dell C610 laptop from
win2k now the audio skips intermittently at start up and
all other audio playbacks. My audio driver is Crystal
CS4205 & I have gone into safe mode and removed and
reinstalled it several times. Thru web searches I've
turned off the WOW SRS in media player. Have spent a
couple of hours on the phone with dell they believe it's
an xp prob. pls help

Hello Mo,

The audio probly skips beacuse of the high load during
start up. This load will steal resources from the audio
buffer and cause the sounds to skip.

As far as playing music with windows media player, you may
have things running in the background that are stealing
resources.

Make sure you have the latest audio drivers from Dell, and
you should post your system specs and see if anyone can
help further.

Thanx John,

My specs are:
Dell Latitude C610
128mb ram
20gb HD
Pentium III
Crystal CS4502 audio driver
ATI Radeon Mobility video driver

There's no more running in the start up now then what I
had on w2k and I had no audio prob. I have nothing
running in the background.

The problem exist accross the board when playing audio,
whether it's real one, wmp, quicktime, cd or any audio or
video source such as nbc.com or cbs.com

I've downloaded the latest driver from dell R48991. As I
search the web I don't see this as an issue with the
driver. It seems much broader because there are numerous
sites discussing this issue. The users have different
systems but relatively the same problem.

This problem also seems to accompany mouse skips as is
the case with me.

I did not have this problem with w2k. Reverting back to
w2k is not an option that I'm considering.

Thanx for any thought you can add toward a solution
Mo
