I have a Gateway PC that came with a dvd player accessory.
I recently updated from Windows 98 to Windows XP. In the
upgrade, I lost my DVD program. A friend installed a new
DVD program for me, and though I get video, I don't get
sound from the DVD or an audio CD. Can someone help me out?
Thanks,
Ernie

Upgrade to WMP9 or if you have done, re-install it on top of itself. Use it
as your default DVD software. Sounds like the 3rd party software corrupted
some of the codecs you need.

Make sure all the sliders are up to max in the mixer - double click on the
loudspeaker icone on the task bar.

Upgrading from W9x to XP is always a risk. I did that and eventually ended
up formating and doing a fresh install of XP. You don't get any leftover
"crap" from W9x that way.

Cheers,
Jerry
